Tithes and Tithing.

I didn't study Theology. I didn't study Religion. Professionally, I belong to Education and Tourism. Consequently, I'm not qualified to speak on Tithes and Tithing. But as a diligent student in constant pursuit of knowledge, I am always in search of truth wherever it can be found by posing relevant questions to those whom it may concern in order to get the right answers. It's on this note that I decided to dedicate my time in this short write up to pose questions and seek clarifications on the highly controversial subject of Tithes and Tithing.  Before I embark on this venture, permit me to acknowledge the fact that, more than any issue in Christendom, tithes and tithing remains the most controversial, misunderstood and, unfortunately the most highly manipulated by the congregation and men of God in modern. So many Christian believers pay tithes, not because they see it as act of faith to be willingly performed since "God loves a cheerful giver" but they do so merely as a bow to convention, fulfilling an obligation. Besides, since failure to pay is usually followed by threats of curses from God, as those men of God would make them believe, their fear is heightened and because the instrument of fear has been highly employed, asking questions becomes unthinkable. It's important to understand that Jesus' coming led to the amendment of several old testament laws and establishment of a new covenant. But I want to know why tithes and tithing as an old testament law remains very compulsory for Christians today. I want to know why none of Jesus' disciples paid tithes during their time, at least I didn't see it recorded anywhere in the new testament despite that they would be judged as "robbing God " and yet Christians are compelled to pay even if they've have no visible source of income. It's very unfortunate that approach religion with emotions instead of using their sense of reason in the things of God. Personally, I don't believe that God wants me to follow him foolishly, else he wouldn't have given me the brain. That's why I can't  accept unchallenged whatever the so-called men of God tell me today. Thomas never accepted without demanding a substantive prove. And Jesus never blamed him for wanting to be sure.  The Holy Bible was written by men under the influence of the Holy Spirit. The one who inspired the writing of the bible is always right and represent the ultimate truth. He cannot lie so I believe in Him because he's not human.  But I can never believe everything the interpreter of the bible tells me. My reason is the interpreter of the bible is a human being and can not be free from human mistakes and errors.
