David Francis: An Emerging Hope of Future Scholarship in Nigeria and Beyond

By Ogiri John Ogiri

I met David Francis some time in 2016. We were both teachers at the same secondary school in Karu Local Government, near Abuja. He had come fresh from his philosophical studies at a Catholic Seminary and Institute. I had come fresh from my own studies in my own field. He taught Literature-In-English with Government while I combined English Studies with Geography. Within a week after meeting in the school,we became friends, not because he was handsome but because he represented my own images of three ancient Greek Philosophers namely Aristotle, Plato and Socrates for whom my admiration knew and still knows no bound. Moreover, we shared in common, undying love for reading, writing and public speaking. He loves lecturing and I love lecturing. Whenever we had time and met in the staff room,we engaged in fertile intellectual intercourses with our minds often locking into a funny combination of unity and incongruence of perspectives. His love for and grasp of the Scholastic Philosophy of St Thomas Aquinas and St Augustine seemed to agree with my love for it. David Francis is a writer and a speaker par excellence. A quintessential poet, he traverses the natural splendour of poetry with such an awe and candour as is typical of every adventurous poet. His mastery of metaphors is heaven-sent. Today, David Francis has carved a niche for himself as a lecturer, Editor-In-Chief, Copy Editor, Online Writer and a Training Specialist. Sapientia African Leadership Foundation Magazine is still enjoying his editorial prowess. I said so because I am equally a reviewer for the Germany-based Magazine. He is,indeed, an emerging hope of future scholarship in Africa. I,therefore, have no hesitation in recommending him to whoever needs his service in whatever capacity he can deliver.  I am glad I met David Francis.
